Saïd Djinnit holds talks with Faure Gnassingbé

Saïd Djinnit (photo),the Secretary-General’s special Representative for West Africa, held talks with the President of Togo on Monday.

M. Djinnit was coming back from New York where he took part, on January 16th, in an information session of the UNSC on the situation in West Africa.

A situation he assesses to be globally satisfying in spite of the new threats that include the activities of the Boko Haram group in Nigeria, piracy in the Guinea Gulf, the consequences of the Libyan crisis, drug trafficking and instability ties to elections.

All of these matters were discussed with President Gnassingbe as Togo has been holding a seat at the Security Council since the beginning of January.

At the end of the meeting Mr. Djinnit praised Togo's elections at the UNSC and declared that " I have found a knowledgeable leader in Faure Gnassingbé, one who is determinited to devise efficient sub-regional strategies to tackle today's challenges and threats"
